Dear Friend,
The Special Diabetes Program is one of the most crucial contributions our government makes to help millions of Americans with diabetes.
This program is a major source of funding for research to cure or prevent the
complications of type 1 diabetes and has led to demonstrated and continued
improvements in type 2 diabetes prevention and care.
But the funding for this program has stagnated — meaning each dollar invested in diabetes
research and prevention is worth less with each passing year. Even worse — it's set to
expire entirely next year!
Let your lawmakers know that you are counting on them to support the millions
of Americans with diabetes by prioritizing the Special Diabetes Program.
The Special Diabetes Program allows us to make great strides in increasing our
understanding of how to treat, prevent and, hopefully, one day find a cure for
diabetes.
Funding would allow the continuation and expansion of current work, including:
- The development of new drug therapies and effective treatments capable of stopping and reversing diabetic complications;
- Progress in identifying environmental triggers for type 1 diabetes; and
- Prevention, wellness, and education programs for communities that are most at-risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
To millions of children and adults affected by diabetes, these kind of solutions can mean the difference between dying far too young and living a full life, or between losing a limb and standing up on your own two feet.
So tell your Members of Congress: The work is not yet done. Don't short-change the Special Diabetes Program.
The Special Diabetes Program is a powerful investment in the health and future of Americans living with diabetes.
Thank you for all you're doing to let Congress know that this is an investment we can't afford to let slide.
Sincerely,
Nash Childs, PE
Chair of the Board, American Diabetes Association
P.S. Make a gift now to support our work to fund cutting-edge research and provide much needed services to people with diabetes.
