Mission Moment - Laurie Gonzalez

Why you ride/How did you get started with Tour De Cure?

Coming from a family with a history of diabetes (mom, dad, maternal grandfather, paternal grandmother, and maternal uncle), it was no surprise when I was diagnosed with Type II in March of 2012.  Since that time, I've lost almost 80 pounds and my sugars are mostly normal, although I still have approximately 70 more pounds to shed.  I attribute ongoing weight loss to a sugar-free and flour-free lifestyle and introducing exercise into my daily routine.  The gym is part of that regimen but it's cycling that has had the most impact on my quest for normal blood sugar levels.  Biking is a fun and (mostly) easy way to meet my exercise goals.  I want to share my successes with others who are overweight, diabetic, or both and encourage them to seek assistance from the American Diabetes Association.  ADA has provided me with information and support so riding in the Tour de Cure is my way of giving back to them.

DO YOU HAVE DIABETES? YOU ARE WHY WE RIDE! Share your Story so we may feature you in our next newsletter.
