Research Estimates Legislation Act Could Save Billions
On Feb. 24, the Association, in collaboration with the YMCA of the USA and the American Medical Association, released new research looking at the savings the Medicare Diabetes Prevention Act could have on federal spending. The research estimates the legislation would reduce federal spending by $1.3 billion over a 10 year period and would also reduce the number of seniors living with type 2 diabetes. Currently, half of all Americans age 65 or older have prediabetes and are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes. The Medicare Diabetes Prevention Act will provide coverage of the National Diabetes Prevention Program for seniors under Medicare.
