You know it takes courage and determination to overcome the obstacles of diabetes. So this fall, do yourself a favor. Be recognized for all your hard work.

Red Striders are people with diabetes who take part in the Association's Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes events. People like Scott Hanselman.

Computer programming wiz Scott has had diabetes for more than 15 years. Not one to just sit around, Scott is using his blog and other connections to raise an ambitious $50,000 for his Step Out team this year.

"They say diabetics die of diabetes. As a well-controlled type 1 diabetic on a pump, my goal is to live long and eventually get hit by an ice cream truck," Scott said.

"Being a Red Strider is important to me because I'm tired. I've been diabetic for 15 years now and no one should have to do this for 15 more. I'm amazed at those who've been at it for 50 years, and I pray no one else will have to."
