Participate in PERL Clinical Trial

Kidney disease is one of the leading complications of diabetes, and can lead to serious health problems, including the need for dialysis or kidney transplant. Despite many medical advances that have improved diabetes treatment, kidney disease remains a problem for many people with diabetes. New treatments are urgently needed.

PERL is a clinical trial for people with type 1 diabetes who have early signs of kidney problems. Our goal is to test a new way to reduce loss of kidney function using a safe and inexpensive medicine. We are seeking adults with type 1 diabetes to participate in our study.

Find out more about our study and whether you might be eligible and how you can participate.

Welcome, Sarah Laulunen!

My name is Sarah Laulunen and I recently joined the American Diabetes Association in the role of Senior Manager, Mission Delivery.  I am joining this company with a strong background and multiple years of experience in leadership, team building, communications, event planning, and intercultural studies. I have been a leader and active community volunteer in diverse roles including: Supervising all campus community involvement and outreach during college, Team Leader at Feed My Starving Children, Ministry Coordinator at my church, and Community Outreach Coordinator at Hands On Twin Cities. When I am not leading or volunteering, I love to hike, run, attend outdoor concerts, paint, and create pottery. I am so excited to become a part of the exciting accomplishments of this team!

Wellness Lives Here

In celebration of our 75th Anniversary, we are putting our focus on "wellness" with a new initiative designed to inspire and fuel our nation's healthful habits at work and beyond. Wellness Lives Here will educate and motivate people to adopt healthful habits to reduce the impact of obesity and type 2 diabetes in this country. For some, it will mean fewer sick days and higher productivity. For others, it will mean looking and feeling better. For everyone, the result will be more empowered Americans who are better able to control, delay, or stop diabetes and related health problems.
