Why it's important

Why the Ride to Live is important to me

I love my father. While some peoples childhood hero's are athletes or fictional superheros my father has always been my hero. He has always been there for me through good and bad. The first person I turn to for advice and always there to listen.

He has had diabetes all of my life. I'm now 33 years old and have seen him take insulin shots, test his blood sugar level and recently lose three toes to this horrible disease. He is still with us today and I hope for a long time to come. He watched his brother die from diabetes and I see him worry constantly that either my sister or myself will develop diabetes.

I'm a father now myself and I want my son to live in a world where diabetes won't be an issue.

I have attached a picture of 3 generations of my family (my father, me and my son). Here is to hoping that the youngest of us will grow up in a world where diabetes is no longer a killer.
