Our "Twin Inspirations"

On February 18th, 2006, our twin son, Joshua, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. He was 2 months shy of his third birthday. He had all the classic symptoms, especially the excessive thirst and urination. He spent four days in the hospital with an initial glucose reading of 465. It was a devastating diagnosis, but we knew it could be worse. While going thru all the training, we learned that our other twin, Justin, had a 50/50 chance of also being diabetic. We decided to fight for a cure and registered to ride 25k in the Tour de Cure. On June 6th, 2006, Justin was diagnosed. It was just four days before the ride. Our determination to find a cure grew ten-fold. It was just my husband and I that first year, but this year we formed a team, Team Twin Inspirations. Our boys are our inspiration and we will find a cure.

Joshua and Justin are now four years old and very healthy and energetic little boys. Everyone is shocked to find out that they have diabetes. They do great with their injections, but there are times when they just don't want to get shots or have diabetes. I tell them some day we will find a cure and they won't need their shots anymore.

Please help everyone out there with diabetes and ride in the Tour de Cure or walk in Step Out to Fight Diabetes. If you can't ride or walk, then donate to people who can or to the ADA. Every dollar will bring us closer to a cure!
