ANDIE'S S FIGHT TO BE STRONG

I am the mother of a thirteen year old who has struggled with her diabetes ever since she was diagnosed November 8, 1999.

Andie is 13 years old. She was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in November 1999. Andie has been struggling ever since. Andie is on a very strict diet, she is on a 1-5 ratio, meaning she takes 1 unit of insulin every 5 grams. She takes a shot for everything that goes in her mouth. We have been working hard every year to find a cure. We are very excited, Andie will be getting her insulin pump in August. We are really hoping this makes a big difference in our life and hopefully a more normal life for her. She has been working hard for the walk this year. She always has enjoyed the walks and diabetes camp. I would recommend to all you parents Children Mercy is great at Camp Shawnee. She will be attending in July this year. Andie is a very strong little girl, who has been through alot for a teenager. She has struggled with so much and been so strong, I hope for everyone that one day they will find a cure!
