Community Walk is an exciting and important way for you to raise awareness in your community about diabetes and fundraise for a cure. Community Walk events are grass-roots, volunteer driven walk events which you plan in your community.
As a Volunteer Walk Coordinator (VWC), you will be responsible for all aspects of the walk, from deciding the date and time, securing the location and route, recruiting volunteers and raising funds. With Community Walk, you will receive an event website, have access to online tools and resources, a kit with banners, posters and more and you will receive one-on-one support from an Association staff person.
The fundraising goal for each Community Walk is $3000 (in honor of 30 million Americans living with diabetes). We will provide you the tools to help you reach your goal and are here to support you along the way!
As a VWC, you have exclusive access to online fundraising tools and resources, including an event website to recruit walkers, manage your event, and an email system to get the word out about your event and ask for donations. We also provide a “Step by Step Planning Guide” and “Volunteer Walk Coordinator Playbook” with everything you need to plan a great event and become a fantastic fundraiser and event coordinator!
Your Community Walk event should complete before December 31st of each year, you must re-register an event every year for the current calendar year.
You have complete control over your event, and can customize it for what you want and for what makes sense for you and your community. You will be responsible for planning the date and time, securing your own site and route, recruiting walkers, asking volunteers to help you that day, and asking for donations.
We do not provide t-shirts, incentive gifts or thank you prizes for Community Walk events. Also, the Association cannot reimburse you for any expenses associated with a Community Walk.
During the registration process, we ask you to make the first donation (registration fee) of $30 in honor of the 30 million Americans living with diabetes. Once you register, you will have immediate access to online planning tools, your website is automatically created, the planning materials will be emailed to you and your kit will be sent in the mail. Plus, your first gift is an outward sign of your commitment to this event, and it encourages others to make their own donation as well.
After you register, you will be sent a kit that will have all the materials you need for a successful walk, including table covers, banners, posters, and balloons to promote the event in your community and to use on walk day.
