The Joint Commission, in collaboration with the American Diabetes Association, has developed a Certificate of Distinction that recognizes hospitals that make exceptional efforts to identify, monitor, and foster better outcomes for hospitalized diabetes patients. Key components recognized by certification include staff education, written blood glucose monitoring protocols, protocols for prevention and treatment of hypo-and hyperglycemia, patient education, and data collection/quality improvement activities.
