Teaming up to help Jack Ballard and others through support, research and education.
More than 30 million adults and children in the U.S. are living with diabetes. Of those, 1.25 million have type 1 diabetes, including Jack Ballard, Carey's son. At the young age of 13, he is learning to deal with this health condition.
The exact cause of type 1 diabetes is unknown. Usually, the body's own immune system mistakenly destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas.
Over time, complications can affect major organs, including heart, blood vessels, nerves, eyes and kidneys. Maintaining a normal blood sugar level can dramatically reduce the risk of many complications.
Researchers are working to prevent the disease and further destruction of the cells for those newly diagnosed.
Together we can help make more resources available to families, neighbors and friends who are living with the day-to-day challenges associated with this disease.
Please consider giving, even a small amount.
