Our 2013 Youth Advocate: Laura Pearlman
Laura & "Daisy" her alert dog!
Laura is 11 years old and has had type 1 diabetes since she was 7. She loves to play soccer with her travel team or just out in the back yard with her sisters and friends. For the past 2 years she has run in her school district's elementary track meet and won medals in several events. This past year she discovered cross country running and participated in a school district sponsored race and placed 2nd for her grade level. She has to work hard at managing her blood glucose levels with all this physical activity! When she's not playing soccer or running, she loves to sing in her church choir and participate in church plays.
She also loves to work with her diabetes alert dog, Daisy. Together they attend obedience classes weekly and have competed in Rally obedience trials. Daisy helps Laura keep tighter control of her diabetes and is her constant companion, even in school where Laura is an all A and B student.
