THANK YOU FOR STEPPING OUT SEATTLE!!!
Fellow Walkers,
Thank you for joining me in the fight against diabetes by participating in Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes. We have currently raised almost $300,000 which would not have been possible without your efforts. This is fantastic, there is still time to raise $25,000 to reach our goal of $325,000!
The funds you raise help fund research for a cure for this disease. As a person living with Type 1 diabetes for the past 20 plus years, this hits home not only for me, but also for my family and colleagues who have seen what a struggle living with diabetes can be.
I know that fundraising can be intimidating, but take it from me, you can reach your team fundraising goal and beyond with little extra effort! Our District Wellness Committee, of which I am the Chairperson, coordinated the creation of our team for the event this year. Our team, which consisted of committee members, district staff and our families, set a $2,500 goal for the walk and we exceeded that by raising nearly $3,000. As a small, second year team wanting to reach our goal, we all worked together and our group effort paid off, not only in participation but also in funds raised. As a team, we utilized the online system to send emails to our personal address books. With a little persistence and frequent email reminders, we raised a majority of our money online. It really does work! The daughter of my colleague even collected funds by going door-to-door to her neighbors. In this day of technology, that personal touch goes a long way. We surprised ourselves with how easy and fun it was to do this!
Whether you are a part of a large or small team, you can reach your fundraising goal. Start early and be persistent. I challenge those of you who have not reached your fundraising goal to take action. For those who have already reached your goal, stretch further and see what you can accomplish. Be creative and have fun. Team Woodinville Water District already has new ideas for fundraising in 2010! Take the next few weeks to do some more fundraising and help fight this disease which affects so many people like me. Please mail in any additional funds raised to the local ADA office. You have until November 13th to continue fundraising and to help stop diabetes.
Thank you and good luck!
