We'd like to celebrate David Sloan as our Red Strider of the Week!
David is a wonderful joy to have at ADA as a Community Board Leadership member, Committee Member, Volunteer and top fundraiser for Tour de Cure.
He goes over an beyond to help spread awareness about diabetes and fundraise.
This year he's walking to continue his support for ADA but more importantly spread awareness that we can find a cure together.
"This year, I am giving a new opportunity for you to help STOP DIABETES. The Tour de Cure bike ride is still my main fundraising focus, but this year I am also walking and raising funds for the American Diabetes Association's signature fundraising walk, Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes.
Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy needed for daily life. The cause of diabetes continues to be a mystery, although both genetics and environmental factors appear to play roles. There are 29 million Americans living with diabetes, a disease that is outpacing heart disease, cancer and AIDS. Diabetes is a disease that has deadly serious consequences, and there is no cure."
We Step Out to do our part to Stop Diabetes and take steps to improve our health! Participants are changing the future and making a positive impact in the lives of those who are affected by diabetes. You can too!
Step Out participants are committed to walk and raise money in this inspirational event not because 29 million people in the United States have diabetes, but because they walk among us in our lives and at the event.
Once you register, you'll be given your very own web page and will have access to lots of tools to help you fundraise your Step Out Center. You'll be able to customize the page with your reason for walking, send emails to ask others to join you or donate, and even download Facebook and smart phone apps. And of course, your Step Out Specialists (ADA staff) will be here to help all along the way!
Check back often for updates on the Step Out Walk!
