Welcome to my Step Out page!
I am asking you to support me in the virtual Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes® event because finding a cure for diabetes is urgent and personally means so much to me.
As many of you know, I lost my mother last May to complications from diabetes. She was a woman who managed to survive small cell lung cancer only to be beaten by the silent killer that is diabetes. Since her death, my sister and I have worked to raise over $2,000 for the American Diabetes Association in Mom’s honor.
What many of you do not know is that, up until her death, I was teetering on the pre-diabetic line unsure of how to get away from that marker. I thought it was inevitable for me since my mother, grandmother, and biological father all had it. On the day mom died, without much talk of it, I became more aware of the dangers that laid before me if I didn’t take a firmer grasp on my health. I changed little things about my eating—substituting Splenda for sugar, eating low carb and sugar free ice cream, trying to get in more vegetables than I already consumed in a normal day. I also, after being angry for months, decided to finish the path toward bariatric surgery—a journey that Mom and I started together.
I know that my body is very much out of shape (and I’m prone to injury), but I want to do this walk for Mom. I may not be able to finish it. If I do, I’ll surely hurt, but I feel like I need to do this. Will you join me?
“If you can't fly, then run;
If you can't run, then walk;
If you can't walk, then crawl;
But whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.”

Thank you for making a generous donation to this cause that is so important to me.
