My Tour de Cure 2018 style
Happy Cycling Season Everyone!
It is that happy time of spring where we have almost got through mud season and are thinking of the beautiful days of summer here in Maine. Part of the annual ramp up to summer for me is the American Diabetes Association Tour de Cure that runs through some of the most scenic beaches, farms and general countryside of coastal Maine!
Again in 2018 I'm proud to be Capatin of "Team Riding with Roger"! On Sunday, June 10th I'll be heading out on Tour with all my teammates as we enjoy the ride over the various distances that will challenge our cycling ability and provide time to reflect on the challenges that ALL diabetics face on a daily basis. I'm very fortunate and Team Riding with Roger is totally tuned into these challenges - from the basics of a bottle of water an hour to the are you bonking, in a bad mood for some reason or has your blood sugar just crashed! Then someone from the peanut gallery gets in my face and says TEST! NOW! And I know they are right!
At the end of the day this is a fundraiser, my one fundraiser for the year that I reach out to my friends and colleagues to ask that you each consider making a donation to this cause that supports research, education, outreach and countless other support functions to improve outcomes for both newly diagnosed diabetics and 27 year veterans like me.
Without this kind of research I would not be on a pump, with continous glucose monitoring, about to go live with the smart technology that can adjust my insulin rates automatically as sugar levels rise or fall.
This has been an interesting and challenging spring for me in oh so very many ways as many of you are aware. With those challenges I can never turn my attention from the fact that I'm a Type I diabetic and I must test, monitor, eat properly, exercise to control my sugar levels because if I don't, the odds are the other stuff won't work either.
Please consider supporting the American Diabetes Association by sponsoring me in this year's Kennebunk Tour de Cure! With your help we will make a difference in fighting diabetes, a disease that affects over 10% of the US population every day of their lives!
