Support Me in Tour de Cure! As many of you already know, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in July of 2009. Obviously it has rocked my world. Some days I was checking my blood sugar 14 times and taking up to 8 shots of insulin. My parents were following me around waiting for my lows, getting me up at night to check my blood sugar and monitoring me at my sporting events. My 3 younger siblings felt my parents turn their focus to me and had worries and jealousies of their own to deal with. Needless to say, it was a diffucult time. Now, however, I have turned a corner. I am on an insulin pump which makes it much easier for me to eat and play like other kids. I can even go on sleepovers again! When I saw the pamphlet for the Tour de Cure at our local pizza parlor that first spring, I just knew it was time for me to show diabetes that it wasn't going to beat me. I signed up in order to raise money so the researchers can find a cure and BEAT THIS DISEASE! To this end I will be cycling for the fourth year in the American Diabetes Association's Tour de Cure fundraising event. I even have a team of family and close friends who are riding and fundraising with me. We are called The DiaBettys and our team page shares a little more about our group. This group worked together in 2010, 2011 and 2012 to fund quite a substantial amount of research (Combined we haveraised over $30,000!) and we are coming together again to do the same in 2013. Please note, the funds we raise all go to the same great cause so feel free to direct your donation to any of my teammates who may need the assistance to meet their $200 minimum to ride. No matter how small or large, your generous gift will help improve the lives of more than 23.6 million Americans who suffer from diabetes. I am riding in the hope that future generations can live in a world without this disease. Please support me with a donation by selecting the "Click Here to Sponsor Me" button. Our efforts here will help set the pace in the fight against diabetes. So let's get in gear and ride to Stop Diabetes! Thank you for making a generous contribution to this cause that is so important to me and my family and friends. Together, we can all make a difference!
