Welcome to My Tour de Cure Web Page!

Thank you for viewing my Tour de Cure fundraising page! I would like to kind of give you a little history about me and my Diabetes so you understand just why I look for your support... In April 2004 I felt quit ill so I decided to go to the Doctors. Come to find out my BG (Blood Glucose) was over 600. Now at the time I had no clue what that meant! Well off to the hospital I went. A weeklong stay at the hospital to get my BG (Blood Glucose) levels back to normal because they were off for so long. At first things were going great my Family was helping me out my mom was making my lunches and writing down the carbs for everything for me so I knew exactly how much insulin to take for what she packed. At this time I was 20 years old and still very immature. Eventually I gave up on my Diabetes only testing my BG maybe once a week if that. So on Dec. 26th 2011 I found out my A1C (a running 3 month average of your BG level) was a 12.5 which is a BG average over 300. Now a person without Diabetes BG is normally between 80 and 120 I believe. At that time I decided I needed to take charge and get through this! I started testing my BG on average 10 times a day and trying to do my best at counting my carbs to be able to give myself the correct amount of insulin. Now on March 28th 2012 I found out my new A1C with all the help from my Family and Friends I have got my A1C down to a 7.1! I might hate having Diabetes but right now I am doing great with it! The friends I have made through the American Diabetes Association are AMAZING they are like Family to me! This year is my 4th year participating in the Tour de Cure. I have not decided on my distance yet but I am either going to do 50 or a century. Thank you for checking out this page! I hope I will be able to send you a Thank You card for your donation! Once again a HUGE thank you to my Family especially Shaina! And all my Diabetic Friends who have helped me through this! Thank You! Paul Curley |
