THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY?S OFFICE IS WORKING TO TAKE DIABETES OFF THE STREETS FOR GOOD!

26 million people in this country are afflicted with diabetes-that is more than one of every twelve Americans. The problem, unfortunately, is getting worse. According to a recent study, 1 out of every 3 children born in the year 2000 will develop diabetes in their lifetime. In the African-American and Hispanic communities the ratio is even higher-approaching 1 out of every 2. In Louisiana, where obesity rates are above national averages, those numbers might even be worse.

The men and women of the Orleans Parish District Attorneys Office are committed to doing their part to Stop Diabetes. Diabetes touches the lives of so many in this community-our parents, our children, friends and coworkers. We teamed up to brighten the future and make a positive impact on the lives of those with diabetes. In recent years, the American Diabetes Association has spent more than $30 million annually on medical research to-among other things-find a cure and stop diabetes in its tracks.

On a daily basis, the men and women of the Orleans Parish District Attorney?s Office fight hard in court to keep the streets of this community safe.
