Mandeville, LA Tour de Cure

Wolfepack

We ride because we are proud to do our part to Stop Diabetes. We decided to team up to change the future and make a positive impact in the lives of those who are affected by diabetes. We are committed to ride and raise money in this inspirational event not because 26 million people in the United States have diabetes, but because we personally know some of them, and want to do something about it.

James' Personal Story:

My Personal Story:

I was diagnosed with Diabetes at the age of six.  I can remember going to the doctor's office with an ear infection and watching the doctor tell my mom and dad that they were immediately to take me to the ER in Buffalo, NY.  I also remember watching my mom break down and start crying upon hearing that her son was a diabetic.  Devestating news for me when I found out that I wouldn't be able to continue with my currect diet.  But I have survived and had some interesting and not so fun experiences throughout my life due to having Diabetes  .

Not so fun experiences:  I can always remember my dad warning me about taking care of myself because if I didn't "I would have my fingers/toes/legs amputated; this always scared me,  But wasn't the best at motivating me to be in the best of control.  Now that I'm getting older, I have really started to take this advice to heart.  If I want to live a long and healthy life, I really need to keep myself healthy.

Fun experiences:  I have actually done fund raising for the ADA since I was 10.  Starting with skating for diabetes, My mom also got us involved with voluteering for the Tour de Cure that rolled through our small town each year.  Through the fund raising efforts of past tours, I was also able to go to Diabetes Camp for three summers!

My life has been full of ups and downs due to diabetes, so it is really important for me to help provide someone in the future with the chance to NEVER have to deal with this disease.
