RIDE MARSHAL ? ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

We are excited to announce an elite group of volunteers who will help elevate Tour de Cure to the next level.  Beginning in 2013, Tour de Cure has established guidelines for accepting up to 12 ride marshals to assist with Tour de Cure.  Ride marshals will help with key aspects of Tour de Cure from January to April as outlined below, then will have their fundraising minimums waived for the ride.

Expectations of Ride Marshals:

  • Lead at least one scheduled training ride for the 2013 season.  Ride marshals will be responsible for leading the ride, but also making sure riders are aware of their turn-around points (for those doing shorter distances).  Alternately, route marshal candidates can volunteer to install route marker signage on the Friday before Tour de Cure or remove signage by the day after Tour de Cure.
  • Attend at least one scheduled Tour de Cure social or recruitment event during the 2013 season.
  • Market Tour de Cure to at least one non-ADA sanctioned ride during the 2013 season by distributing save-the-date cards, brochures or flyers to participants.
  • Provide leads to ADA Staff for new teams, riders and volunteers.
  • Serve as a liaison to at least one bike shop, making sure that the bike shop remains supplied with Tour de Cure promotional literature.
  • Participate in a mandatory Ride Marshal Safety and Training Teleconference.
  • Register for the ?ADA Ride Marshals? team on www.diabetes.org/biketourlouisiana (after approval from ADA Staff) paying a reduced registration fee.

All of the above must be completed to receive Ride Marshal status.  If not completed, $150 fundraising minimum will be due the day of the ride in order to participate in Tour de Cure.  Ride Marshals must apply annually. Route Marshals will be assigned to patrol specific zones on the route.

ADA will provide:

  • Volunteer Tour de Cure T-shirt
  • Official Ride Marshal rider bib
  • Waived fundraising minimum for Tour de Cure - Though fundraising can still be done for the Tour
  • Finish line festivities including food, beverages and entertainment
