The Sugar Babies and Sugar Daddies

We ride because we are proud to do our part to Stop Diabetes. We decided to team up to change the future and make a positive impact in the lives of those who are affected by diabetes. We are committed to ride and raise money in this inspirational event not because 26 million people in the United States have diabetes, but because we personally know some of them, and want to do something about it.

The Sugar Babies and Sugar Dadies team will be participating in the 5th Tour ride this year as a team. We started as a pair- just Geoff and I decided it sounded like fun and went out to ride the first year without much training. Needing to find things to motivate us as we struggled to even finish that first year, we talked about how we should recruit more friends and family members to ride with us in the following years so that we'd have more people out on the road with us to talk with and to lean upon as we needed strength, support and motivation. The second year, our team numbers doubled to 4 and then by the 4th year (last year), we had 12 riders! We had riders compete in the 12 mile, 30 mile and even in the 60 mile ride last year.

Our team name comes from a play on words. Many (uneducated) people refer to diabetes as "sugar" and so to play on that, we named ourselves the Sugar Babies and Sugar Daddies. Maybe one year the candy (Sugar Babies) will want to sponsor us and we'll get super cool uniforms!

This year, I will again be participating as long as baby Geyer cooperates and is born after the Tour. We hope to being back many riders from the past few years and hope to recruit many new riders. I know many of the riders that came out last year are hard at work to recruit new riders for this year's Tour!
