Support Me in Tour de Cure! THANK YOU FOR CHECKING OUT MY PAGE I am participating in the American Diabetes Association's annual Tour de Cure event this year. I am asking you to join me in the effort to Stop Diabetes by making a contribution to support my ride. BACKGROUND STORY: I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 7 in the second grade. I am now 19 years old and have had diabetes for 12 years. I am currently on the Omnipod insulin pump which is a wireless and waterproof insulin pump design for active and sport playing induviduals. Diabetes has been hard to deal with for me because I was constantly in and out of the hospital at a young age. It also made me have to become responsible really quickly and change my whole life style. Lucky for me my family and close friends have been by my side and support me along this wild ride. Its been hard but with support and new advances in medical technology it is becoming easier to handle and deal with everyday. RIDING WITH AUNT DIANE So my Aunt Diane lives in Monrovia, California and got into road cycling as a hobby. Two years ago she told me about the Tour de Cure, I was debating whether or not to ride and ended up not riding because I thought I wouldn't enjoy it. But Last year she introduced it to me again. I was more interested last year and decided to look into the event. After talking to my Aunt Diane and Stan Pitts (owner of Stan's Monrovia Bikes), I agreed to go on a 20 mile bike ride the next morning with Stan and a group of riders. After the bike ride I fell in love with road cycling and pledged to ride 61 miles in the Tour de Cure 2012. So once again, this year I am riding with team Monrovia Cyclists Against Diabetes and with my AMAZING Aunt Diane and will be riding 61 miles again! THANKS I would like to give a special thanks to my Aunt Diane for introducing me to this amazing opportunity and also I give a very special thanks to Stan Pitts who has graciously taken me under his wing and is helping me train and learn the rope of road cycling, and also a special thanks to Steve Moore for helping and riding with me. Also thank you to all my friends and family members for the support! |
