Welcome to My Tour de Cure Web Page!

I have been overweight most of my life. Around 15 years ago, I started to lose a lot of weight, for no apparent reason. I was so pleased with the results I did not think to consider that the weight loss might be due to disease. Around 5 years later, after complaining to my doctor about the tingling sensation in my toes, I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. Since then I have struggled with the disease, never gaining the upper hand but also never letting it run out of control. Much of the weight I originally lost came back. What was missing was a consistent exercise program. A few summers ago, I decided to take up cycling. A few guys I know are dedicated cyclists, and after observing their enthusiam, I got on the bike and started to ride. It was slow going at first, but eventually I was up to 10 to 20 miles a day, every day. I started to lose a few pounds, and to my (and my doctor's) pleasant surprise, those A1C test results dropped to normal levels. Support Me in Tour de Cure Once again I will be cycling the ADA Tour de Cure in Napa Valley, May 5, 2013. Over the last three years, thanks to the generousity of my friends and colleagues, I've raised over $11,000 to help fight diabetes. Please support me this year with a donation. Our efforts will help set the pace in the fight against diabetes. So let's get in gear and ride to Stop Diabetes! Help Make a Difference in the fight against diabetes! Each mile I ride, and the funds I raise will be used in the fight to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. |
