Red Rider Indoor Training
All registered Red Riders (participants living with diabetes) are invited to weekly training, courtesy of Tryon Bike! Get in shape, meet other Red Riders, and prepare for the 2017 Tour de Cure!
Classes begin on January 2 and will continue weekly on Mondays at 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., and Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m.

Q - I see this ride has a fundraising minimum. Can I still ride if I don’t raise that amount?
A - No. The American Diabetes Association is a non-profit organization with a mission: to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. That mission creates an imperative and constantly growing need for programs offered by the Association (ADA). Diabetes is a fast growing epidemic. Current trends show that by the year 2050, one third of the population will be diagnosed with diabetes. Diabetes education and awareness is critical, and with this comes an increased need to fund programs and research to find cures and improved treatment. Tour de Cure funds help advocate for the rights of individuals with diabetes in the workplace and other organized settings, such as schools where we must be vigilant in our protection of children with diabetes and importantly, research that makes a difference for people with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes is made possible because of your support of the Tour. For raising the minimum fundraising goal or more, you will be offered an enjoyable ride that is fully supported with SAG support, bike mechanic support, medical personnel and first aid support, fully stocked rest stops, an event t-shirt, post-ride meal, extra perks and much more! If you have any questions about the fundraising minimum or where your fundraising dollars are being used, please do not hesitate to contact us or check the national webpage at diabetes.org. We are happy to talk to you about it and help you come up with creative ways to reach your goals.
Q - Can my child participate and ride with me?
A - Yes, but you or an appointed adult guardian must remain with the minor (under age 18) at all times. If participating, the minor is also responsible for fundraising and is also required to wear a helmet, if riding. Please use your best judgment based on the skill and maturity level of your child. We strongly recommend that prior to the Tour you enroll your children in a Road One course offered for families by your local chapter of the League of American Bicyclists. This will teach them the importance of riding on the side of the road and they will learn valuable skills for riding with other cyclists in traffic. Children who are transported in Burleys or other bike carriers need not be registered and are not required to meet any fundraising minimum, but you will have to fill out an Emergency Information Form for them at registration.
Q - Can non-riding friends and family participate in the finish
A - Friends and family members are welcome at the festival though they may be required to pay for lunch. Your friends and family can cheer you across the finish line and then join you in enjoying the festivities. Friends and family are also welcome to sign up for volunteer assignments at the event. Volunteers will receive a t-shirt and lunch at no cost.
Q - I registered to ride and now I have a conflict. Can you cancel
my registration? Do I still have to fundraise?
A - Yes, we can cancel your registration, and you are not required to fundraise if you will not be riding in the event. We appreciate your contacting us so we can release your space to another rider. Your registration is nonrefundable and nontransferable. Alternately, even though you will not be able to ride, we can keep your registration active on our website to allow you to continue fundraising for our important cause to stop diabetes. This way you will be participating as a virtual rider and still making a difference.
Q - When and where do I turn in cash and check donations?
A - You may turn in your cash/check donations at any time to the American Diabetes Association. Checks should be made payable to American Diabetes Association. Send to our local office.

Q – How many people form a team?
A – We prefer each team to include five or more individuals. There is no limit as to how large a team can be. You can have a team with as few as two people.
Q – Why be a part of a team if the fundraising minimums are
A – Teams have more fun! They compete with other teams and they can earn team tents to hang out in during the festival on the afternoon of the event and much more. Many teams do extra things like team training rides, team shirts or jerseys and team fundraising. Company teams are a great way to create camaraderie among employees while getting healthy and creating a presence in the community.
Q – Can my company team include more than employees?
A – Yes! Successful company teams enroll not only employees, but family, friends, associates, clients, vendors, etc. The team is for everyone connected to your company in some way. Check with your employer as to whether there are any restrictions. Also, check with your employer about whether matching gifts might be available for team participants.
Q – Does everyone on my team need to ride together?
A – No. In spite of being on a team, riders should register for the distance/route that best suits their abilities and level of training/fitness. Large teams will want to do some coordination so that team members going the same distance know in advance and can arrange to go together.
