Q - How long is the walk?
A - The walk route is a loop around the zoo. Walkers may choose from either a 1 mile or 3 mile loop (the 1 mile loop 3 times). You will be a Zoo guest, among the animals! Be sure to invite friends and family to join us!
Q - What is the Walker Fundraising Minimum?
A - Registration fees do increase throughout the year, and are currently $25 for walkers. The registration fee includes breakfast, snacks and hydration at our rest stops, medical support, and more. All participants must meet the fundraising minimum of $100 in addition to the registration fee to receive a commemorative T-shirt on the day of the event. Registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable and do not count towards the fundraising minimum.
Q - Why is there a $100 fundraising minimum?
A - The American Diabetes Association is a non-profit organization with a mission: to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. That mission creates an imperative and constantly growing need for programs offered by the Association (ADA). Diabetes is a fast growing epidemic. Current trends show that by the year 2050, one third of the population will be diagnosed with diabetes. Diabetes education and awareness is critical, and with this comes an increased need to fund programs and research to find cures and improved treatment. Tour de Cure funds help advocate for the rights of individuals with diabetes in the workplace and other organized settings, such as schools where we must be vigilant in our protection of children with diabetes and importantly, research that makes a difference for people with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes is made possible because of your support of the Tour. For raising the minimum fundraising goal or more, you will be offered an enjoyable walk that is fully supported, an event t-shirt, lunch, extra perks and much more! If you have any questions about the fundraising minimum or where your fundraising dollars are being used, please do not hesitate to contact us or check the national webpage at diabetes.org. We are happy to talk to you about it and help you come up with creative ways to reach your goals.
