Welcome to My 2016 Tour de Cure Web Page!
Hi welcome to my 2017 Tour de Cure web page I want to thank every one who donate to the 2016 Silicon Valley Tour de Cure with your help I raised over $4000!
The Tour de Cure is a very personal experience for me and in many ways it saved my life. I remember the day I was diagnosed with diabetes. I was ill with phenomena and was taken to Santa Teresa Hospital by ambulance. I left the hospital with a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes and that changed the rest of my life.
I learned more about diabetes and managing my health through Kaiser Hospital. They offered great classes on how to manage diabetes, nutrition and exercise .it was through the classes at Kiaser that I found out about the Tour de Cure.
I decided to get off the couch and do something about my health, so I started riding a bike to get in shape. Not only did cycling help improve my health. But I discovered that I LOVE riding! I take a ride almost every single day! I also participate in several cycling events including the Tour de Cure and competitive mountain bike races. This year will be my 17th year riding in the Tour de Cure! I have a closet full of Tour de Cure jerseys and I am having a blast riding and staying in shape! I am proud to be Team Captain of Team Red Silicon Valley. Team Red is a team made up of Red Riders, friends and family and those who support Red Riders. I wear my Red Rider jersey all the time and encourage people with diabetes to join the cause!
I have been the team Captain of Team Red for 7 years and have noticed that when I talk with people about diabetes or being a Red Rider, they at first , do not want to talk about living with diabetes. But then after participating in the Tour de Cure they start to open up and feel proud that they are doing something positive for their health.
Diabetes is a hindrance, you have to take it one day at a time and you can make a big difference in your life. I did not say that was 17 years ago- I had to get sick to get well! Diabetes is not a death sentence! The Red Rider program and Team Red is a very powerful program because it helps people become aware of diabetes and it helps people with diabetes help themselves.
I encourage people with diabetes, friends of people with diabetes and people who love someone with diabetes to learn more about the Tour de Cure and join Team Red Together we can Stop Diabetes!
Cheers Aussie Bob
