Welcome to My Tour de Cure Web Page!
Last year (2017), I raised almost enough to meet my goal of $1500. I did raise over $1000 to qualify as a "Champion", although I consider anyone struggling with diabetes a champion. This year I registered early, but due to other medical issues I wasn't sure if I could actually participate, so I didn't start requesting donations until now (almost Christmas). Now, I'm looking for others to join me in this fight to stop diabetes by joining my team, Team T. Ryx, and/or donating on my behalf to the cause. I'm hoping I can beat my personal record of $1480! I just donated on my own behalf now that part of my retirement benefits has been deposited in the bank. I'm starting relatively late, so if anyone out there would like to donate on my behalf, it would mean the world to me. Keep in mind this is not about me personally. Millions of people out there are living, and dying, with diabetes! Are you one of them?
I am riding in the San Diego Tour de Cure, starting and ending in Del Mar on April 14, 2018. The American Diabetes Association's Tour de Cure is far more than a cycling event to me. It is my opportunity to change the future and make a positive impact in the lives of those who are affected by diabetes.
I am committed to riding and raising money in this inspirational event not only because 26 million people in the United States have diabetes, but because I personally know some of them, and I want to do something about it. In fact, I AM one of them, so I know personally what they're going through. My elder brother and both of my parents struggled with it in their later years. All passed away with complications from diabetes. My wife's sister, as well as her son (a doctor no less), my neice, and other family members, and many of my friends are also a victims of diabetes. While certain groups of people are more likely candidates, this disease can affect anyone, no matter their profession, physical activities, ancestry, or other factor you might think would eliminate their risk.! Won't you help me start a chain reaction? Ask your family and friends to join in this fight, too by donating on my behalf or by joining my team!
As one who has diabetes, I'm participating in the Tour as a Red Rider, and Captain of Team T. Ryx. I hope you'll consider joining my team and participating in the Tour with me. To make it easier, this year at Tour de Cure you can ride, walk, or run, and still be on my team! To prepare for the Tour as a cyclist, you are more than welcome to join us on our weekly Group Rides on Wednesdays and Saturdays. I also ride other days, so you can ride with me on nearly every day of the week. For more information on the Group Rides in the San Diego area, go to our shop's Web Site at www.T.-Ryx.com and go to "Hoppy's Page". We typically ride on Saturdays in the San Diego, Ocean Beach, and Coronado areas, and our Wednesday rides in the San Marcos and Escondido areas. Since I'm in the process of converting my Scorpion FS 26 S-Pedelec to a velomobile, I'll be riding my white prototype velomobile in the Tour. I plan to ride at least 65 miles in the Tour, but team members can ride any of several route options from low mileage up to 100 miles. It's all for a great cause, and it's a lot of fun!
Chances are you also know someone who has been affected by diabetes, and you already know how important it is to stop this disease. Please help by MAKING A DONATION ON MY BEHALF, or by JOINING MY TEAM (TEAM T. RYX) and either walking, running, or riding in the Tour with me (on a trike, bike, velomobile, or whatever else you prefer to pedal). By contributing any amount, large or small, you will be helping the American Diabetes Association provide community-based education programs, protect the rights of people with diabetes and fund critical research for a cure. And don't forget, your donation is TAX DEDUCTABLE!
With your help, we will fight for a future where a child does not have to struggle through a lifetime with the hardships...and stigma...of having diabetes; a future where an adult does not have to face the uncertain times ahead after receiving a diabetes diagnosis; a future where you and I will know that we had a part in making this possible.
I truly appreciate your support. Together we can STOP DIABETES!!!
