Help me fight Diabetes!
LEADING BY EXAMPLE. UNITED BY A CAUSE.
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. As many of you know, the last four years I've challenged myself to a 104-mile bike ride with a team called "Paige's Pilots" to help fight diabetes. Many of you have asked what or who Paige's Pilots is all about. So, I've put together some background on how Paige’s Pilots began.
In 2011, our friend's Brad and Pam Maas found out their 7-year-old daughter, Paige, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. They decided to do everything they could to fight it, and help find a cure. Brad started cycling, and discovered the American Diabetes Association (ADA) ride called the "Tour de Cure" here in Portland, Oregon and dedicated himself to raise money to help fund research for a cure, education, and advocacy for those living with the disease. As an pilot for Delta Air Lines, Brad reached out to his fellow pilots, friends and family and organized the Paige’s Pilots team. Fast forward 7 years, Paige's Pilots, has grown to nearly 40 riders (many but not all of us are airline pilots), and last year, we raised over $40,000 for the ADA.
There is a good chance you probably have a family member, relative, friend, or acquaintance who lives with some form of diabetes. After all, 29 million Americans have either Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, and 1 in 4 doesn't even know it. I'm committed to ride and raise money in this inspirational event because I personally know some of them, and want to do something about it. You can too, just by donating. It would mean the world to me.
This year I will be completing the 50 mile ride instead of the 100 mile. And because of COVID19 concerns, this years ride will be done virtually. I am dedicating my training and ride this year to the millions of youth who live with diabetes every day. I hope that the money we raise can help provide more education to families about the importance of a healthy lifestyle!
