DARE TO INSPIRE. MAKING A DIFFERENCE.
I am a rider because of Margo, my wife, who has been living with T2 diabetes for over a decade. I see the negative impact it has on her life every day. I feel the negative impact it has on my life (indirectly) as well.
I am a team captain because it is my way to inspire my friends to help make a difference. They have their own stories of people in their lives affected by diabetes.
I am a diabetes advocate, because of the stories I have shared, and continue to share with people such as you.
My story goes back to my first ride in 2004. The more stories I have heard, the more I have been involved. From designing the Hillsboro routes in 2009, managing the ride as Ride Director, inspiring the volunteer planning group as Event Chairman, and recently as a Community Leadership Board Member, my purpose and story has grown stronger and clearer. I am doing what I can to improve the lives of everyone affected by diabetes. All this as a VOLUNTEER. That's the most powerful donation that I can offer to my own cause.
It is my hope that by sharing these stories of hope - the programs, seminars, research, and connections that the American Diabetes Association enables through donations, and the lives that are improved as a result - that you'll find a reason to donate to my cause. Unfortunately, I have found that this is not a difficult task. Everyone knows a diabetic - family, friend, colleague. And there is something that the ADA is actively doing that already improves their lives - or can improve their lives if they KNEW about what is available.
The American Diabetes Association serves all diabetics (type 1 and type 2). A third of its mission is in research. Not only research for a cure (like JDRF), but research for LIVING with diabetes (treatment, stability, monitoring). A third of the mission is education. Doctors (new approaches), patients (treatments), and providers (schools, day care, workplace). And a third of the mission is advocacy. Diabetic discrimination, fear, prejudice, etc. And all three of these missions are happening at the local level. The money I raise stays in Oregon and SW Washington.
Thank you for donating to the American Diabetes Association on my behalf.
I am forever grateful for all of those willing to help and thank you for supporting me, year after year!
Congrats on Ten Years
