My own Story UPDATED
What a time I have had since joining TEAM RED. I have had my ups & downs health wise but have joined a new group (through the ADA) of others with diabetes to get back on track. I have been blessed with a wonderful man, Vance, who supports me through it all, AND with a beautiful granddaughter, Charlotte Rose, who I plan to be enjoy for a long, long time.
I am starting early to each my goal of $2,500. I am once again asking all my friends new and old to help me by donating to Tour de Cure & the American Diabetes Association.
Those that have known me for a long time know how much change I have gone through and continue to go through. If you are a new friend, know that I continue to struggle but with all my friends & family's support I will continue to stay health and happy.
If you can help me by making a donation WONDERFUL!! And if you want to join me next June and ride a wonderful ride that would be wonderful too!
Please read my story if you haven't and THANK YOU!
On January 5th 2015, a date I will never forget, I received a call from my Doctor. During the week before I had gone in for my annual physical and lab work not expecting anything to come of it.
My Dr. called me and said I needed to come in to see her. I asked what Saturday she had an opening and was told that NO I needed to come in NOW. My tests had not come in well.
My tests had come back with a fasting Blood Sugar of 430 and an A1C of 13.8. This is WAY over the norm. Here's the thing, I get tested every year and had never had a high number before. What caused it is still a speculation but a year earlier I had been hit by a car while crossing the street. While I was in the emergency room for broken ribs I was told that there didn't SEEM to be an internal injuries. Now we believe that my pancreas, which is what produces insulin in your body, may have shut down because of shock and because I was released rather quickly from the emergency room tests were never done.
Well it has been a year and during that time I have been on medication but not insulin to help correct my diabetes. I have lost close to 100 lbs. I work out almost every morning. My preferred method of transportation is walking or biking. Heck I am even going on a Biking Vacation to Holland this spring.
And my current Labs: my fasting blood sugar is 100 and my A1C is 5.3 All of which is great! I watch it always and watch what I eat and do. I want to live to enjoy my future grandchild and my wonderful life.
I want to thank all of my friends and family for supporting me in my efforts to live a healthy life.
