Welcome to my Personal Page
SO MANY LIVES ARE TOUCHED BY DIABETES. CHANCES ARE YOUR LIFE IS TOO.
I’m committed to ride and raise money in this inspirational event not because 29 million people in the United States have diabetes, but because I personally know some of them, and want to do something about it. You can too, just by donating. It would mean the world to me.
Many people in my family, my generation and at least three before us, have been affected by diabetes either personally or through family members who have lost limbs, kidneys, vision or even their lives at a young age. While research of medications and diet, along with available patient education have vastly improved the management of the disease and greatly increased our longevity outlook, we need to do what we can to eradicate it. My mother was dead at 54 as a result of complications of this disease; I am planning to ride at least 54 miles at age 61 and can do so because I was aware of what to look for and how to address it to avoid or at least postpone the physical ravages of the disease. I hope the next generation can be riding or walking or skiing at the age of 81 because they will have found a cure and diabetes will be a disease for the history books.
This year is even more special because it’s the 25th Anniversary of the Tour de Cure, and special to me because the date of this ride is the one year anniversary of the passing of my wonderful life partner, Leslie Boston, to whom I will dedicate this ride.
