Welcome to my Personal Page
Almost everything has changed this year. Living with Diabetes has not. So even though Tour de Cure events are being cancelled we will still ride on our own or in small groups to raise money for a cure for diabetes. Saturday, May 30th I intended to ride again for my husband, Harry. One flying unscheduled dismount from a horse (and one broken wrist) later I decided to walk 10 miles instead. With me will be some Wild Women of the West riding horseback. (I’m in Texas!)
Why we ride/walk
Because Harry has had Type 1 Diabetes for over 40 years, we support everything the American Diabetes Association does. However, it is the research which has affected Harry personally. In his lifetime he’s gone from animal insulin to a product produced by recombinant DNA technology. He’s gone from 4 shots a day to a pump. His current pump is almost a closed loop meaning it comes with a sensor that monitors his blood level continuously and delivers insulin accordingly, pretty close to an actual pancreas. It is really exciting to think about the young kids who get this disease will not have to grow up with the extreme highs and low sugar levels that cause all the damage and scary side effects of diabetes. (e.g. Harry’s quadruple bypass.) ANYTHING you want to give is appreciated! Every dollar gets us closer to the goal. We also take words of encouragement. Financial or moral, your support means a lot!!
If you want to give in honor or memory of a person, you can sponsor a mile with any donation. Just give me their name(s) and we’ll have our handy crafters whip up a sign for the route. Pictures and video will be taken of the event so you will be able to see your sign.
