Peace and Welcome to Victoria's Page
My Personal Story...
PEACE to each of you! I sincerely wish to THANK you for donating to my page. As most of you know, I lost my Mother, Gladys Proctor, on October 28th, 2013. What most don't know is the fact that for several years prior to my mom leaving this planet, she suffered from vascular dementia which resulted from the effects of having type II diabetes for over 30 years...and many of those early years her diabetes was not controlled until I became involved in managing her health. But it was the impact, the "SILENT" impact of this disease on her body's systems earlier on that set the horrible stage for what eventually would lead to the slow but steady breakdown and decline of my Mother's health and her Vibrant Life...
I was in my early twenties when I found out that my mom had type II diabetes but in my late twenties when she was put on insulin. I will never forget when this happened because it radically changed the coarse of my young life forever! My mom called me and said that her doctor was putting her on insulin because her blood sugar was not being controlled by pills. She shared that she had to go to a week long diabetes education training course and needed me to go with her. My mom lived in North Carolina at the time, so I had to travel there and take part in this intense training and learn a new way of living that was absolutely overwhelming to me and beyond overwhelming to my mother. That week long program changed everything for me! Although I was a nurse, the only real knowledge I had of diabetes and insulin was what I learned in nursing school at Johns Hopkins University, and I remember thinking in class how complicated insulin and regulating blood sugar was to understand...little did I know...I was about to find out just how complicated managing diabetes with insulin really was...
So many people are affected by diabetes and I want to do something about this disease. You can too, just by donating to the American Diabetes Association on my behalf. It would mean so much to me.
Every donation makes such a big difference. The money we raise for the Association funds critical diabetes research, information programs, and advocacy efforts that support the nearly 30 million children and adults in the U.S. with diabetes, and the 86 million with pre-diabetes.
I am forever grateful for all of those willing to help and thank you for supporting me!
My sincere Love, Respect and GRATITUDE to you,
