LEADING BY EXAMPLE. UNITED BY A CAUSE.
Elise was diagnosed with juvenile or Type 1 diabetes the day after her 9th birthday in Disney World of all places! Her life is forever changed by this auto-immune disease that for now has no cure. Since she is still so new in her diagnosis insulin pumps, continuos blood glucose monitors, and all the fancy techno gadgets aren't an option for her just quite yet. So what does that mean? It means a LOT of shots. At least 5 shots a day and up to 8 depending on what she eats. She has to prick her little sore fingers at least 8 times a day but usually 10 and squeeze to get enough for a sample for her blood glucose monitor. Elise has to count EVERY carbohydrate that she eats...For the rest of her LIFE. She does this all HERSELF. She calculates all her numbers for her insulin and gives herself the shots all over her body. She has been giving her shots since day 1 in the hospital. She is incredibly mature and understands her disease to a level that most adults fail to comprehend. Initially Diabetes took a huge toll on Elise emotionally and it almost broke all of our hearts. However, through the power of our Heavenly Father, the support of family and dear friends, Elise has come out on top. She has hope for the future, she has an excitement for life, and is as happy as ever. We have our Elise back! Let's end the burden of diabetes and find a cure. Of course that takes time, money and a lot of genius people. Pick your talent and invest it with Team ELISE! Thank you so much for your help- it means more to our family than we can convey.
You can sign up for Tour de Cure by joining our team (called Team ELISE) and donating any amount you feel comfortable with. You do not have to participate in any of hte events to donate. You can choose to participate in any of the events (crazy 100 milers and other distances), but we as a family will be participating in the 4 mile Mayors Ride on May 20th (check-in 10:30 and race at 11:30) which you can ride or run in. We would LOVE to see you there!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!
The Sammis Family
It started with just one decision and one intention. I decided to make a different in my life and the lives of others. I registered to participate in the Tour de Cure and I am now raising money to prevent diabetes, to fight the consequences and to improve the lives of all of those affected. I want to find a cure.
So many people are affected by diabetes and I want to do something about this disease. You can too, just by donating to the American Diabetes Association on my behalf. It would mean so much to me.
Every donation makes such a big difference. The money we raise for the Association funds critical diabetes research, information programs, and advocacy efforts that support the nearly 30 million children and adults in the U.S. with diabetes, and the 86 million with pre-diabetes.
I am forever grateful for all of those willing to help and thank you for supporting me!
