Welcome to my Tour de Cure page!
I am asking you to support me in the Tour de Cure® because finding a cure for diabetes is urgent and personally means so much to me.
This will be the 6th time I've ridden in the Tour de Cure. I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 2008. Since that time, despite being very careful with diet and exercise, I have ended up on multiple medications, including insulin. It can be frustrating to deal with my pancreas gradually worsening as it fights to keep up with the insulin resistance that is type 2 diabetes. Eventually it will quit completely. On top of that is the very real concern for kidney damage, eye damage, nerve damage, increased infection rate, etc. And perhaps the biggest worry for me is that my daughter and grandkids have a greater risk for developing type 2 diabetes.
Yes, diet definitely plays a role. But let me be blunt - there are plenty of people out there way fatter than I am that DON'T have diabetes. There is so much more to learn about how diabetes is developed, treated, and hopefully prevented and cured.
In past years, the Tour de Cure would take place at a certain location at a certain time. You would sign up to ride a certain length. I've ridden eveywhere from 35 miles to 100 miles. This year will be different. It is a "virtual" tour and will take place all year. So my goal is different. Between now and Sept 18 I hope to ride at least 500 miles.
This year Tour de Cure celebrates 30 years of making an impact in communities nationwide and I’m riding to champion the over 34 million Americans living with this terrible disease because they need our support.
Help Me Reach My Goal! When you donate you make an immediate impact:
- You spread awareness of the devastating effects of diabetes.
- You advocate for a child with diabetes to have the same learning opportunities at school.
- You fund life-saving research that will bring us closer to a cure.
- You provide access to community programs and free resources that help those living with diabetes.
By participating in the Tour de Cure, I hope to inspire others to join me in this vital mission.
Thank you for making a generous donation to this cause that is so important to me.
