Welcome to my Personal Page
Welcome to my fundraising page!
I am asking you to support me in the Tour de Cure(R) because finding a cure for diabetes means so much to me.
In August 2018, I will have been a type 1 diabetic for 50 years. I am once again riding 100 miles for the Tour de Cure to celebrate my successful yet challenging journey with type 1 diabetes.
I was diagnosed when I was 22 months old. For my entire life I have consciously and externally done the job of controlling my blood sugar because the organ which controls mine doesn't work. I test my blood sugar on average 10 times per day and I take a minimum of 3 shots per day and sometimes up to 5 shots per day. If you do the math, that's more than 4,745 pricks (lancing device or shots) into my body every YEAR. If you multiply that by 50 years, it's a pretty big number.
For those of you who know me, you may think that I manage my health very well. I have no visible issues and I appear very active. But the truth is it can be a struggle everyday. Blood sugars go up and down. They can be difficult to manage. One day I may wake up with a blood sugar very high or worse yet I may not be able to wake up at all because my blood sugar is too low. I know my life has been in danger on numerous occasions and I am truly lucky to be alive.
I'll never forget what my doctor told me when I was a small child. He said "make sure that you keep yourself in good health so that when they finally come up with a cure for diabetes, your health will be good enough so you can benefit from the cure". It's been 50 years and I'm still waiting. To honor what my doctor said, I'm choosing to ride 100 miles for the Tour de Cure to make sure I stay healthy. You can help me by donating to the American Diabetes Association to come up with a cure so I can stop waiting.
Help Me Reach My Goal!
When you donate:
* You spread awareness of the devastating effects of diabetes.
* You advocate for a child discriminated against in school because of diabetes.
* You fund life-saving research.
* You provide access to community programs and free resources that help those living with diabetes
By participating in the Tour de Cure, I hope to inspire others to join me and raise money.
Thank you for making a generous donation to this cause that is so important to me.
