Welcome to my Tour de Cure page!
I am asking you to support me in the Tour de Cure® because finding a cure for diabetes is urgent and personally means so much to me.
This year Tour de Cure celebrates 30 years of making an impact in communities nationwide and I’m riding to champion the over 34 million Americans living with this terrible disease because they need our support.
My involvement with the American Diabetes Association began over 25 years ago, when I sent my 4 year old son, Andrew, to Diabetes Camp. He had been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes around his 3rd birthday. Little did I know at the time that several years later, I would be sending my daughter, Anne to camp as well. She was diagnosed with Type 1 a couple weeks after her first birthday. Having two kids with Diabetes was just heartbreaking for me as a parent. My younger brother Kevin passed away from complications of Type 1 at the age of 25. He had been diagnosed at 18 months of age. The emotional and financial impact of diabetes on our family was enormous. When your child has a chronic disease, you never really have time to relax and enjoy the simple things...you are always worried...is their blood sugar dropping? Did they eat enough to cover exercise? Are they going to wake up in the morning? My faith helped me get through a lot of the scary stuff.
Over the years, my volunteer efforts with the ADA have included helping out at camp, participating in Step Out Walks, Call to Congress, and serving on the Community Leadership Board when I was living in Nashville. Oh, and the Tour de Cure,...of course! Cycling is something that I have enjoyed over the years, and about 13 years ago I decided to combine my passion for cycling with my passion for finding a cure for Diabetes by participating in my first Tour de Cure. I have made great friends through the Tour while working on a common goal...wiping out this horrible disease!
Help Me Reach My Goal! When you donate you make an immediate impact:
- You spread awareness of the devastating effects of diabetes.
- You advocate for a child with diabetes to have the same learning opportunities at school.
- You fund life-saving research that will bring us closer to a cure.
- You provide access to community programs and free resources that help those living with diabetes.
By participating in the Tour de Cure, I hope to inspire others to join me in this vital mission.
Thank you for making a generous donation to this cause that is so important to me.
