Welcome to my Personal Page
Welcome to my fundraising page!
I am asking you to support me in the Tour de Cure® because finding a cure for diabetes means so much to me.Today alone over 4,100 people will be diagnosed and because more than 30 million adults and children in the United States are living with this terrible disease.
Why finding a cure means so much to me, My sister, Vickie (1955-1995), had type 1 Diabetes. Vickie was diagnosed with diabetes at age 7. She had to take insulin shot(s) everyday after her diagnosis. Minus her insulin shots and her diet she lived a fairly normal life until she was 19. At 19, she starting losing her eye sight and by 20 years old, she was completely blind. A lot of people would have given up with this type of tragedy in their life, NOT Vickie. She continued her education at High Point College (with help from my Mom), received her graduate degree in English and a minor in History. Then went to UVA, where she received a Masters and then taught visual impaired children in VA county schools for 5 years. At this point in her life she started having kidney failure and had to move home, where she was on dialysis for 12 years. All of this was due to her Diabetes. At age 39 she passed away, but even with these tragedies in her life, she kept a positive attitude, her FAITH in CHRIST and witnessed to others most anytime she had the chance.
Oct 3rd will be my 17th Tour de Cure ride and hopefully someday soon there will be a cure. I’m committed to ride and raise money in this inspirational event not just because 30 million people in the United States have diabetes, but because I personally know what diabetes can do to a person and want to do something about it. You can too, just by donating. I would appreciate your donation and hopefully there will be a cure soon, for this awful disease.
