2018 Tour De Cure Ride for Diabetes Saturday, June 2nd
Dear Family and Friends,
Well, the rumors are true. Allan has officially retired! Yea! (There goes sneaking store purchases into the house and painting furniture while he’s at work!) His last day of employment was on Jan 30th, 2018. Since then he has been sleeping in late (some days not rising until 6:30 am), lounging around all day in his PJ’s, watching day time TV, endlessly scrolling thru Facebook and Pintrest, binge watching cat videos on U-Tube and becoming totally addicted to QVC. Yessiree! We are now the proud owners of 13 brand new, ‘Can’t live without it’, kitchen appliances, in every color of the rainbow, 17 various solar powered lawn ornaments, not to mention, several yards of ‘fake-ivy’ covered, plastic fencing. And it’s only been 3 months! Oh, yes. And one terry cloth robe that converts into a large, leather, multi compartment , suitcase, with a matching toiletry tote……………on swivel wheels. Ahh…retirement and home shopping!
So, anyway, with all of his spare time, if anyone out there needs help painting their house, cleaning out their basement or moving a baby grand piano (or even an adult grand piano) up a flight of stairs, ‘Retirement Al’ is your guy! Just give him a ring (not a text!) and I’m sure he will be more than happy to help out.
Of course, as anyone who knows Allan knows , the above is what our illustrious leader, President Trump (it’s so hard to use those two words together) refers to as, “Fake News”. Well, except for being retired ……and the cat videos. Actually, Allan has been keeping quite busy with housework, meal preparation and laundry, as I am still working to bring home the bacon. And, there again, as anyone who knows Allan, knows, that too is “Fake News”! Well, except for the part about the bacon.
Actually, Allan has been working hard, fixing up his dad’s basement, working around our yard and recently preparing one of our planter beds to grow rocks. Yes, well that’s another story. He has also been doing his best to get in some long rides on his bike because, you guessed it! If he’s out riding his bike, he’s not doing laundry! So that, and, it’s time for the annual American Diabetes Tour De Cure Bike Ride! The bike ride that separates the men from the………… people like me who get winded just taking the bike out of the garage. “Whew! That was quite the workout! I need a cold drink.”
This year, Allan has finally given in to my nagging and has signed up for the 62 mile ride, which is still a long ride! It’s almost as far as I can ride in a car without requesting we stop for ice cream! Or to take pictures of oddly shaped trees, (one of Allan’s favorite things to do), or a potty break, or lunch….did I mention ice cream?
Anyway, as in years past, I’d like to ask that you consider sponsoring Allan on his ‘Ride for the Cure’. Your support is what makes finding a cure for Diabetes a real possibility. We all know what a devastating disease Diabetes can be. And we’d all like to be a part of finding that cure. Who knows? It may even be in our lifetime! I do believe that is possible! Most likely we all know someone who has been affected, in some way, by this disease. So, let’s show them how much we care and do this for them. Heck, let’s do it for all of us!
So, if you would like to sponsor Allan on his bike ride, you may donate online at tour.diabetes.org. Or, you can mail your donation , made out to the American Diabetes Association, to Allan Cordes, at 461 Alverston Ct., Ballwin, Mo, 63021. As always, we appreciate, and thank you, so very much, for your support!
(Now, if anyone has any ideas on how I can get Allan out of the house? You see, I went shopping last weekend…)
