Support Me in Tour de Cure!
Early this April, I will be cycling in the American Diabetes Association's Tour de Cure fundraising event in Birmingham, AL. You, along with the combined efforts of many, can help make a huge difference to the more than 26 million American men, women and children, including myself, that live everyday with diabetes. I have fought daily not to let diabetes control my life! It has required changing my lifestyle to keep my diabetes under control. It has not always been fun! I am asking that you support me with a financial donation by selecting the "Donate to Me" link. Our joint efforts will help set the pace in the fight against diabetes. Training has already started so I am getting it in gear to ride to beat diabetes!
Help Make a Difference!
Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy needed for daily life. The cause of diabetes continues to be a mystery, although both genetics and environmental factors appear to play roles. There are millions of Americans living with diabetes, a disease that is outpacing heart disease, cancer and AIDS. Diabetes is a disease that can have deadly serious consequences, and there is no known cure at this time.
Nine years ago, I was diagnosed with diabetes and have learned firsthand the changes which must occur to maintain a healthy and productive lifestyle. Cycling is one of those changes that has made a difference in my life. I am one of the lucky ones - I have been able to maintain control of my diabetes through exercise and changes in diet and eating habits. Many others are not as fortunate as me and suffer significant medical issues as a result of this dreaded disease.
Pedal power works! Each mile I ride, and the funds raised by myself and thousands of other riders across the nation will be used in the fight to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.
This will be my sixth Tour de Cure. As Captain of Team Red Alabama for 2014, I again intend to ride 100km and with your assistance exceed my 2013 fundraising total! Team Red Alabama is composed of both Red Riders (individuals diagnosed with Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes) and other dedicated individuals who are committed to finding a cure. TEAM RED ALABAMA IS FOR EVERYONE!! Please feel free to join us in the ride if you are able. The more the merrier!!
Thanks again to everyone who has assisted me in the past. Please help me achieve my 2014 riding and financial goals through your prayers, good wishes, and financial support. No matter how small or large, your gifts help improve the lives of more than 26 million Americans who suffer from diabetes, with the hope that our children and future generations can live in a world without this debilitating disease. Together, we can all make a difference!
Thank you for considering a generous contribution to this cause that is so important to me! Please feel free to extend this offer to others and give them the opportunity to participate in the Tour de Cure either by riding or by contributing. Don't have a bike? Be a virtual rider or come spin with us! Everyone's support is needed and greatly appreciated.
I truly appreciate your support.
