2017 Tour de Cure - Why I Ride - Peter J Longiotti
I am once again partipating in the American Diabetes Association Tour de Cure. Diabetes is a special concern of mine. My Grandmother Longiotti had Diabetes and my father has lived with Diabetes for many years. In 2009, I weighed 265 pounds and my doctor said I was pre-diabetic - not something I wanted to hear at age 52. I then made a committment to lose weight and get into shape. With the help and support of my wife, my family and friends, I was able to get to a healthy weight and get back into shape. The years of carrying extra weight on a surgically repaired knee made it difficult to maintain a good exercise regime. I have found that cycling allows me to exercise and keep myself physically fit without impacting my knee. Really important now since my left knee replacement.
The Tour de Cure is a natural for me - I am able to combine something I enjoy and that is good for me, cycling, and a cause that I support, and need ot keep personally in front of me, The American Diabetes Association.
SO MANY LIVES ARE TOUCHED BY DIABETES. CHANCES ARE YOUR LIFE IS TOO.
I’m committed to ride and raise money in this inspirational event not because 29 million people in the United States have diabetes, but because I personally know some of them, and want to do something about it. You can too, just by donating. It would mean the world to me.
