Welcome to My Tour de Cure Web Page!
On April 5, 2020, I will be riding in my 22nd American Diabetes Association’s Tour de Cure raising funds to help fund research and awareness of this dreadful disease. Our team hopes to raise over $5,000 this year but would love to see the total top the $10,000 mark!
Join our team by riding with us (you can even ride virtually!), volunteering for Day of Event needs and/or donating to one of our riders. You can join us, even if you can't be in St. Petersburg for the ride, through our 'virtual rider' program. If you are interested in being a virtual rider, email me for details.
I still find it hard to believe it is over 20 years ago that Michelle was diagnosed with Type 1 (used to be called Juvenile) Diabetes. She has graduated with her Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) and is off on her career as a fantastic Social Worker in an Emergency Room.
We have come a long way in 20 years, and get closer every day, to a cure or virtual cure (like a closed loop artificial pancreas). Your support has gotten us there.
Yet, despite these gains, did you know:
- The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) projects that 1 in 3 children born since 2000 will develop DIABETES in their lifetime
- DIABETES is either the cause of death, or listed as a contributing factor in 1 out of 10 deaths every year in the U.S.? That is over 234,000 deaths per year where diabetes is the cause or a listed contributing factor.
- We, the American public, spend more money on Hallmark cards every year than on research to cure this disease?
We can stop this! By donating as little as $29.00 (for the 29 million Americans who currently have diabetes) or $290.00 or anywhere in between, your contribution will be matched with hundreds of others to raise awareness of the warning signs and proper treatment of diabetes while also funding research towards a cure.
Chances are, you also know someone who has been affected by diabetes and you already know how important it is to stop this disease. By making a donation to, or by joining our team, you will be helping the Association provide community-based education programs, protect the rights of people with diabetes and fund critical research for a cure.
With your help, we will fight for a future where a parent does not have to hear that their child has diabetes. A future where an adult does not have to face the uncertain times ahead after receiving a diabetes diagnosis. A future where you and I will know that we had a part in making this possible. If you would rather mail a check, please make it payable to the American Diabetes Association and mail it to:
