Becky's Tour de Cure Fundraising EXTRAVAGANZA
It's Not What You Have - It's What You DO WITH IT That Really Counts
Me? I have diabetes. Type 1, since age 3 (my diabetes is turning 40 this year!!). So ... what can I DO with that?
It took me a long time (about 30 years) to realize my role in the world as a veteran diabetic. But along with old-age, it's set in that it's my job to tell my story - to use the knowledge I've gained over brutal years with this disease and my loud mouth to speak for the millions of people living with this disease.
Tour isn't just one day a year for me - like diabetes, my work never stops. I'm fighting to save educational and social programs for diabetics. The funds we raise via our event go towards vital programs IN OUR COMMUNITY for research, education, for advocacy in Washington and local government, and other things like... camp for kids with diabetes. This year alone, the ADA is funding 11 independent research studies IN OHIO. These programs are a lifeline for people with a lethal disease who would otherwise just feel vilified by society for having it.
