Don Berry's Tour de Cure Page!
I’m getting ready to do the Tour de Cure ride for diabetes again. It has been quite a year. In 2019 I had shoulder surgery, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, and nearly died from an attack of sepsis. I’m nearly recovered from the sepsis and thought 2020 was going to be a better year. So much for that. Both of the early organized bike rides I had planned to do have been cancelled. The Tour de Cure is not scheduled until mid-June but I expect that it too will be cancelled or postponed. Even so, I am still asking for your support. The work to defeat diabetes still needs to go on.
At 72 with multiple additional risk factors I am at high risk for COVID-19. As I understand it while moderate exercise can be good for the immune system, the intensive training I have usually done can suppress the immune system, so I am limiting my training to shorter rides from home. The current restrictions allow solo riding for exercise, but future restrictions may not even allow that. If the Tour de Cure ride is not cancelled, Assuming I have not succumbed to the virus, I will have to choose a shorter route than I have normally done, but I will ride.
Whether the ride goes on or not, I am asking for your support.
If you never know what to get me for my birthday or Christmas, this would be a good choice.
You can watch my training progress by signing up to follow me on Strava at: http://www.strava.com/athletes/don_berry.
I don’t like asking friends for money, and this is the only cause for which I do that, so please donate. It’s really important to me and to millions of others.
