Welcome to My Tour de Cure Web Page!
I have been overweight most of my life. Around about 1995, I started to lose a lot of weight, for no apparent reason. I was so pleased with the results I did not think to consider that the weight loss might be due to disease. In the year 2000, after complaining to my doctor about the tingling sensation in my toes, I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. For some years afterwards, I struggled with the disease, never gaining the upper hand but also never letting it run out of control. Much of the weight I originally lost came back. What was missing was a consistent exercise program.
Finally, in 2009, I decided to take up cycling. A few guys I know are dedicated cyclists, and after observing their enthusiasm, I got on the bike and started to ride. It was slow going at first, but eventually I was up to 10 to 20 miles a day, every day. I started to lose a few pounds, and to my (and my doctor's) pleasant surprise, those A1C test results dropped to normal levels.
Please Support Me in Tour de Cure
I will be cycling the Wine Country Tour de Cure in Sonoma County, May 3, 2020. Over the last ten years, thanks to the generosity of my friends and colleagues, I've raised over $25,800 to help fight diabetes. Please support me this year with a donation. Our efforts will help set the pace in the fight against diabetes. So let's get in gear and ride to Stop Diabetes!
Help Make a Difference in the fight against diabetes!
Each mile I ride, and the funds I raise will be used in the fight to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.
No matter how small or large, your generous gift will help improve the lives of more than 29.1 million Americans who suffer from diabetes, in the hope that future generations can live in a world without this disease. Together, we can all make a difference!
