Still Riding Towards a Cure
My Tenth Year Riding Red
I started on this journey nine years ago, leading up to my 50th birthday, having found something that would be a fun and meaningful way for me to celebrate that milestone birthday.
It was the best decision I could have ever made.
I love the feel of the wind on my face and the accomplishment of getting somewhere on my own power.
The process of training for and fundraising for these tours have brought me into new communities of friends and comrades, have shown me new places to ride, and have given me what I call a "cycling identity".
Instead of wearing jerseys with the logos of this or that professional team, or some sort of odd design of flowers, I am proud to be a Red Rider, someone who is riding both because of, and despite, diabetes; someone who takes pride in raising money and awareness to help others living with these conditions; someone who shows others that neither age nor diabetes need stop one from being active and doing things one enjoys.
I am asking you to support me in the Tour de Cure® because finding the causes of diabetes, better treatments for people living with diabetes, and hopefully the cures for these conditions mean so much to me.
I joined the Tour de Cure because today alone over 4,100 people will be diagnosed and because more than 30 million adults and children in the United States are living with these medical conditions.
Help Me Reach My Goal!
When you donate:
- You spread awareness of the devastating effects of diabetes.
- You advocate for a child discriminated against in school because of diabetes.
- You fund life-saving research.
- You provide access to community programs and free resources that help those living with diabetes
By participating in the Tour de Cure, I hope to inspire others to join me and raise money.
Thank you for making a generous donation to this cause that is so important to me.
