from Toby . . .
I first wrote this page before Dorothy and I took a late winter road trip to Utah and Arizona. We learned our itinerary aligned with the Arizona Tour de Cure so we registered. Days before, it pivoted to a virtual event due to the coronavirus so we rode in Tucson [see the attached picture].
I decided to fundraise for diabetes several years ago as I saw it impacting friends and family. It is a common and costly chronic disease. In the US, 23 million are diagnosed, 7 million remain undiagnosed and 84 million have prediabetes. It adds risk and severity to those with Covid-19. Those with obesity and diabetes face a double whammy if infected with Covid-19.
The pandemic has not lessened the need for organizations like the American Diabetes Association (ADA). With stay home orders and many out of work, fundraising has taken a kick in the side.
Several years ago, a few of us, formed "Sweet Spokes", a fundraising team to participate in the Twin Cities Tour de Cure, one of a series of national fundraising events. We are small fundraising (and bicycling) team aiming to deliver meaningful donations to the ADA prior to their Twin Cities event on June 6, 2020. Like the Arizona Tour de Cure, unfortunately, the Twin Cities event is now a virtual ride.
I ask you to stay safe, stay active and please donate generously. Understand your contributions are truly appreciated.
