Welcome to the Page of John Holladay Returning Team Red, Red Rider
I am riding because the American Diabetes Association's Tour de Cure is so much more than a cycling event to me. It is my opportunity to change the future and make a positive impact in the lives of those who are affected by diabetes.
I am committed to ride and raise money in this inspirational event not because 26 million people in the United States have diabetes, but because I personally know some of them, and I want to do something about it. Won't you help me start a chain reaction?
Chances are, you also know someone who has been affected by diabetes and you already know how important it is to stop this disease. By making a donation on my behalf or by joining my team, you will be helping the Association provide community-based education programs, protect the rights of people with diabetes and fund critical research for a cure.
With your help, we will fight for a future where a parent does not have to hear that their child has diabetes. A future where an adult does not have to face the uncertain times ahead after receiving a diabetes diagnosis. A future where you and I will know that we had a part in making this possible.
Here is John's Experiences dealing With Diabetes from a Very Young Age:
I have been Diabetic since 21 Months Old, and I have been for over 40 years. When I was first diagnosed at 21 Months Old, my Pediatrician at the time, told my family that I would only live to be 25 Years Old, that this was the Projected Age at the time for the Average Lifespan of A Diabetic. Well Guess what, I have surpassed this by a Long Shot since my family and myself, have been Faithful to God and Jesus and Served them Faithfully both in Church, and Outside of Church.
Two years ago, when I was on a trip to visit my brother in Ohio, with my mother, my mother and brother recognized that I was getting sick with my lung condition and what one thing led to another I had to be hospitalized in a hospital not in my home state of Virginia and I quickly became sicker and in the state of Catatonia due to a rare but unusual side effect from the Pneumonia. I then had to be transferred by ambulance to a bigger hospital in Ohio called Riverside Methodist Hospital, where I was transport6ed to ICU and put on a ventilator, a feeding tube and a Tracheostomy Tube, and from there I coded several times cauins them to think I couod not make it. Things got worse before they got better, and I ended up being there from August 4th to October 31st, 2017. All during this time they thought I was not going to make it and thought that I would be never getting out of there alive, but due to my family and friend’s strong Faith in God and also myself, I got better and I defeated all odds because the Ear Nose and Throat Team told my family that I would never be able to sing again, never be able to really fully speak again due to the possibility of vocal chords being paralyzed, and that I would never be able to sing or ride my bike or do the daily activities that I normally do, and to consider an Assisted Living Facility or a Nursing Home for me and right away, and my strong and courageous mother said "I am Sorry Doctors but you all don’t know my son John, who is the fighter and by God's Grace he will prove you wrong". Well as time went on I did prove them wrong as I got better and got discharged from the hospital and transported by ambulance to a Rehabilitation Center to re learn everything I had lost before I went into the hospital so I had to start from scratch as if I was a tiny baby all-over again, I had to re learn how to read the basic childhood story "A Cat in the Hat"
Well time went on and I proved everyone wrong and proved my mother right by being the 'Warrior and Fighter John" and I not only was I able to sing in the Christmas Program at my church in December 2017 after all this happened to me, and I was able to fully participate in the Hampton Roads Tour De Cure 2018 in April 2018, and by God's Wonderful Grace I was not only a Champion once again by reaching my goal of $1,000 but I was able to faithfully and courageously ride 34 mules to complete the 30 mile Tour De Cure successfully. Everyone thought I was crazy for doing this after being in the grave condition I was in, but I wanted to be a positive inspiration to everyone and encourage everyone to my my Testimony which I will email to you if you like.
In closing, I am riding in the tour once again this year and I am riding on Team Red as a Red Rider (One that fights Diabetes)Once Again, and this year I am going to ride 30 miles. I want to be a fighter, and be a courageous Warrior. I am asking For Your Support and please Consider Donating to my Cause and helping me encourage others with a Bible Verse in the Bible, Matthew 17:20.... "If You Have Faith the Size of a Mustard Seed You Can Move a Mountain", and Philipians 4:13.... "I Can Do All Things Through Christ that Strengthens Me" Smile Everyone for God Loves and Cares For You and Your Family, and Guess what SO DO I, in a Strong GODLY WAY :) <3
