Keeping the fight against diabetes going in 2018...
Since today marks the American Diabetes Association's "Alert Day" (http://www.diabetes.org/are-you-at-risk/alert-day/), it seemed like perfect timing to get out my first call for donations for the 2018 Tour de Cure. Last year was a "Dozen Years of Tour de Cure", so this year will be the baker's dozen!
As always, the Tour de Cure is about one thing... Raising money to fight this disease that impacts so many lives. I have had so many wonderfuly supporters over the years, and hope that I can count on them once again. If you haven't had a chance to donate in the past, I would greatly appreciate your support. It doesn't matter how big or small the donation, every bit counts. Every year, I shoot for being a Tour de Cure "Champion" (raising more than $1,000). It would be great I could make this the year to become a "Double Champion"... That's right, I would like to raise $2,000 for the 2018 Tour de Cure!
Once again, I am not coming to this fight alone. This year, Team Emerald will be showing up in force for the ride. Heck, we even one team member who will be participating virtually from China!
I've said it before... the statistics are still staggering. In 2012, there were 29.1 million Americans with diabetes. That's almost 10% of the population. So just look around you. One out of the ten people around you may have diabetes. Diabetes was the 7th leading cause of death nationally in 2010. And the scarier part is that with the number of undiagnosed cases of diabetes or pre-diabetes, we may only be looking at the tip of the iceberg. Just the other day, I received a note from the Washington State Department of Health with the statistic that diabetes is now the 7th leading cause of death in Washington state, too.
So let's see what we can do to stop this horrible disease. Again, any and all help is appreciated!
